[ Stainless steel ]
For certain uses, the content
of chromium can be increased and other elements such as the molybdenum,
niobium, titanium and nitrogen are added in order to attend the users'
specific needs.
Why the denomination "stainless steel"?
Stainless steels are the ones which possess a bigger resistance to corrosion
than most of other steels, including the carbon steels.
Sometimes, the stainless steels are denominated as steels that are resistant
to corrosion, because the word "stainless" can suggest that those steels
don't suffer any type of corrosion. However, the stainless steels are
not absolutely immune to the corrosion in all environments, but they
are less corrodible and more resistant to corrosive attacks than the
common steels.
